We have been very busy at Old Hall this half term with School Council and though it has taken the whole half term to get our School Council together we have done it taking into account all the COVID guidelines and Social Distancing restrictions.
We have managed to hold class nominations for our school council member’s where each class had a discussion through a class-based activity tailored to pupil’s needs, to find out who their class member representative would be on the school council.
We then held role nominations for each of our members, where in class the council members have been asked using a variety of visual, auditory and tactile aids to help them choose which role they would like to represent on the council, these are Eco, Sports or Head Boy and Girl. There have been discussions around what each role means and how we can help around school and on the School Council over the year.
Once these nominations were in, we have then had our whole school voting week, again ensuring COVID guidelines and Social Distancing were followed. Voting papers were delivered via class registers ready for Monday morning.
We had 2 voting boxes, one for PMLD / Early Year’s bubble and one for ASC / SLD bubble. Each box was left in a safe place for classes to collect, voting took place in class.
Votes were then counted at the end of Wednesday and the results shared on Thursday.
It was very successful considering the difficult times we are experiencing, and is proof that we can show pupil voice throughout the school, on such a big scale, despite these times.
We will hold meetings half termly where possible, via Microsoft teams to ensure our Council still meet in full and are able to see their friends via the video link.
