We have been very busy at Old Hall over the last half term, voting in our School Council members and starting more work on our Eco Award.
We have managed to hold class nominations for our school council member’s where each class had a discussion through a class-based activity tailored to pupil’s needs, to find out who their class member representative would be on the school council.
We then held role nominations for each of our members, where in class the council members have been asked using a variety of visual, auditory and tactile aids to help them choose which role they would like to represent on the council, these are Eco, Sports, Buddy or Head Boy and Girl. There have been discussions around what each role means and how we can help around school and on the School / Eco Council over the year.
We used a different approach to whole school voting this year in a bid to save on waste paper. We voted using the paint programme in school, which allowed our children to make marks on our interactive screens, by the child they wanted to be Head boy, girl etc on School Council. It worked really well and saved a huge amount of waste paper.
We will hold meetings half termly, we held our first meeting this half term and have been working hard to recycle paper, we are also taking part in Switch Off Fortnight (8th - 21st November), saving energy by turning lights off when we leave a room.
We have also bought litter pickers so that children can go outside to collect litter to keep our playgrounds clean and tidy.
Our School Council members are also our Eco Council and have a lot of work to achieve over the coming year, we are very close to achieving our Bronze Award for our School Eco Award.
