Online Safety

I am Steve. I am a class teacher at Old Hall and I am responsible for leading in Online Safety. I am also the subject leader for Computing.

Online Safety is the practice of keeping children safe when using any technology and while using the Internet.

I am a CEOPS Online Safety Ambassador. I have been involved in delivering ‘Thinkuknow’ education to pupils, education staff and parents since I first trained as a teacher. ‘Thinkuknow’ is an education programme created by the National Crime Agency's Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command (CEOP). This UK organisation protects children both online and offline.

As part of my role as Online Safety lead, I write and adapt Online Safety education to best teach our pupils and ensure the effectiveness of their learning. I train colleagues in delivering this important learning and share guidance through Class Dojo and Parent Hubs with our school community.

Online Safety is an important part of safeguarding our pupils. The issues can affect our pupils, their siblings and families within our school community. We are a part of the National Online Safety initiative. Families can join Old Hall here: for easy to follow guides and video tutorials about a wide range of Online Safety and health and related wellbeing issues. Families can also access regular, weekly Online Safety guidance and any alerts through our Class Dojo school story. I am also available to support parents directly and regularly provide printed copies of advice and guidance about Online Safety issues to families.

We teach our pupils Online Safety every day. We teach these rules for staying safe:

National Online Safety

We make it our mission to make the internet a safer place for children.

At National Online Safety, it is our mission to make the internet a safer place for children. We will achieve this through equipping school staff, parents and children with the knowledge they need to understand online dangers and how best to react should an incident arise.

We achieve this through the execution of multiple initiatives which help reduce online risks:

  • NOS certification membership for schools showcasing commitment to Online Safety education
  • Online Safety courses for the whole school community including staff, parents and pupils
  • Specialist training in key topics related to keeping children safe online
  • Online Safety educational resources and classroom packs to support Teachers to teach Online Safety as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.
  • Partnerships forged with educational institutions across the UK
