ASC Curriculum Intent
The ASC Curriculum will support pupils to become capable, composed and content children, by equipping them with the skills to cope with the challenges that face them in everyday life. It will support their understanding of themselves, others and the social expectations of the wider community.
This will involve teaching pupils to recognise their own emotions and develop strategies to self-regulate, through the use of TEACCH and sensory diets. The TEACCH approach presents structure and routine and provides a scaffold to accessing the curriculum and developing social skills to enable pupils to engage with family, peers and teachers. A Total Communication Approach will be used to promote pupil’s receptive and expressive communication, such as PECS, Colourful Semantics, Makaton and many more, furnishing them with the functional communication skills and tools to make their requests and feelings known.
The ASC Curriculum is designed to enable and empower our pupils to reach their full potential. Our aim is to equip them for life beyond Old Hall School, where they can be confident, independent and successful.
